    About us


    Hacienda Carolina is a family estate that is dedicated to growing coffee. 100 hectares of this farm produces coffee, the majority of which is of caturra variety. Hacienda Carolina’s coffee is shade grown, at an altitude between 900 and 1,400 meters. When the coffee cherry is mature, it is hand picked from the trees.

    Nicaragua has the two climate patterns necessary to produce high quality coffee. The northern central region consists of mountainous highlands, which provides the temperature, altitude and humidity necessary to cultivate gourmet coffee. Nicaragua’s pacific plains are dry and receive enough heat and sunlight to dry the coffee beans. This step is important since it is a determinant factor of the end product’s quality.

    Jinotega is the Nicaraguan department most known for its large production and high quality of coffee. Its mountains, numerous rivers, and cool climate make it possible for this department to produce high quality coffee. This is why coffee growing is a family tradition in this area.

    Social Responsibilty:


    Hacienda Carolina has the pride and desire of helping its community prosper.

    • The total area of this estate is 180 hectares, 100 of which produce coffee. The remaining area does not cultivate coffee, because it is forest area, designed to maintain and protect the environment.

    • The water that was used during the washing of the coffee contains contaminant residues that were obtained during the washing. These residues are harmful to the environment. That is why after the coffee is washed, the water undergoes a de-contamination process before returning to the environment.

    • Hacienda Carolina is a source of employment to over 300 direct workers, since the long process of producing coffee is labor intensive

    • This estate provides complimentary housing to most of its employees, and many of their families.
